There’s a huge week of racing ahead – from Galway to Goodwood, this is your one-stop guide

The start of August means only one thing for horse racing fans across the UK – big meets at some world-famous  courses.

With the Galway Races and Glorious Goodwood both hurtling into view at the speed of a thoroughbred on the final straight, it’s no surprise punters are starting to get their bets in.

Many of you might be wondering where to start with the bumper week of racing, but thankfully here at Racing Radar we’ve got you covered with this guide for the best of the action.

With the big week of racing ahead it’s worth getting your bets in early and what better way to do that than with a brilliant welcome offer.

The big kick-off

It all gets underway on July 31st with the opening day in Galway and 24 hours later people will flock to Goodwood for the start of the five-day festival.

The traditional Novice Hurdle gets things underway in Galway and there are seven more races across the opening day.

For many, Goodwood is the social and sporting highlight of the flat-racing season and fans across the country will undoubtedly have one eye on the Goodwood Cup.

Set your sites on the Sussex Stakes

For any flat-race lover the Qatar Sussex Stakes is a must-watch and this year will be no different.

Taking place on the second day at Goodwood (Wednesday 2nd August), it’s a landmark race that has been won by some of the greatest names in the sport.

The likes of Frankel, Rock of Gibraltar, Solow and Mohaather have all been ridden to Sussex Stakes glory in the past. Who will join that illustrious company this year?

Get Ladies Day in the calendar

You don’t need to be a racing fan to understand the importance of Ladies’ Day at any meet and Galway and Goodwood always deliver a day to remember.

Thursday August 3rd will play host to Ladies Day at both meets and while glamour may take centre-stage in the crowds, the racing isn’t to be sniffed at.

An eight-race card in which the Group 1 Qatar Nassau Stakes is the highlight means Ladies Day at Goodwood is set to be one to remember again.

It’s an eight-race day in Galway as well where the Galway Hurdle Handicap, which boasts a €250,000 payout for the winner, provides the main entertainment.

There are so many great Ladies Day races at both events and so make sure you get your bets in on time.

A perfect end to a week of racing

The weekend sees the excitement ramp up in Galway as three days of high-action racing close out the week.

Friday evening racing gets going at 5pm and the races keep on coming before the curtain falls on what is always one of the biggest race weeks in the Irish calendar.

While the action only lasts until Saturday at Goodwood, that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty for people to get stuck into.

Some of the best sprinters in the world will be in action on Friday in the King George Qatar Stakes and the Coral Golden Mile and Magnolia Cup will also provide plenty of thrills.

That’s some way to end a week of brilliant racing and it’s not hard to see why punters are racing to get their bets in.
